Hoarding Awareness e-learning module

Course outline

People who compulsively acquire and save need understanding and empathy in order to help them develop new behaviours to deal with their excess belongings.

The e-learning module provides an overview of the condition, discusses interventions and treatments, and highlights the skills and competencies required to engage with and help people who hoard.

Understanding People Who Hoard

Course outline

This 2 day course helps participants to understand hoarding behaviour and other complex health conditions that result in clutter and disorganisation.

The course also explores evidence-based interventions and treatments, drawing on the experiences of the participants in developing skills to help people who hoard.

Engaging With People Who Hoard

Course outline

This experiential workshop will provide participants with the opportunity to explore how the skills and strategies of Motivational Interviewing (MI) can support clients whose lives have been negatively impacted as a consequence of hoarding.

Using common issues that present challenges to engagement with this complex condition, participants will be encouraged to practice skills and strategies to elicit and strengthen motivation to change.

The workshop will be delivered over 3 days with opportunity in between for participants to practice MI and come back with experience and problems encountered in the application of skills learned on days 1 and 2.
