Scotland is to host Britain’s first conference on the issue of hoarding, a compulsive disorder where acquiring objects and refusing to throw them away takes over a person’s life.

It is estimated that 200,000 people in Scotland are affected by the disorder. As well as harming a person’s health and wellbeing, it can pose a serious fire risk. The conference, to be held in Edinburgh in October, comes in the same year that compulsive hoarding will become a mental health condition.
